Hardware Acceleration improves program performance by utilizing computer’s graphics card (GPU) rather than relying on the process alone. However, sometimes it will cause for hanging and distorted font issue in Office 2013, especially on older computers. Here is how to disable GPU hardware acceleration in Office 2013 to fix this issue.

Hardware acceleration isn’t a new thing. Almost all modern browsers now have hardware acceleration. If enabled this feature, the browser will transfer CPU intensive tasks such as video, games, etc.to GPU (graphics processor) to make everything smooth.

In Office 2013, hardware acceleration is enabled by default. So, here is how to disable hardware acceleration in Office 2013 to fix blurred font and program hanging issue.

- Open an Office 2013 program, for example Word 2013. From the start screen click on “blank document” option. Click “File” menu and then click on “Options” from the left-sidebar of the program window.


- Now, click on “Advanced” option and scroll down. Under “Display” section, locate the two options
Disable hardware graphics acceleration” and “Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen”.
 Check the checkbox against “Disable hardware graphics acceleration” and click OK to save the settings. Restart Office and it should fix the problem.


If the problem still persist, try to disable “Use subpixel positioning to smooth fonts on screen” option, click OK to save the settings and restart the program. It should fix your problems.

How to Fix Windows 8 Hanging Issue When it Shut Down

Windows 8 features a ‘hybrid’ boot technology. This means, Windows does not shutdown everything in the usual way, but instead partially hibernates some major system functions, so Windows 8 shuts down instantly. However, on some system setups, especially on older PCs it’ll create some issues.

To solve this issue, go to the Start screen and type ‘power’. Select “Settings” and from the search result, select the option ‘Change what the power buttons do’.



In the “System Settings” list that appears, scroll down and disable (uncheck) the ‘Turn on fast startup (recommended)’ option.


Now, you should have no further issues as now Windows 8 boot in in a more traditional manner that won’t conflict with your hardware.

Note: You may need to first click the ‘Change settings that are currently unavailable’ option, if the item is greyed out. Click “Save Changes” button and then reboot the PC.

How to Enable Bookmarks Menu Entry in Chrome’s Context Menu


Many of us use bookmarking functionality of browser as a way to access our favorite webpages and web services fast and easily. In Chrome, bookmarked websites can be accessed from bookmarks toolbar (Ctrl + Shift + B), but by enabling an entry for bookmarks in Chrome’s context menu (right-click menu) accessing favorite websites indeed easier and quick. Here is how to enable bookmarks entry in Chrome’s context menu.

Bookmarks Menu for Chrome” is a simple extension that adds a bookmark menu entry to Chrome’s context menu, which enables you to view and access your bookmarks by just right clicking.


This extension not only allows quick accessing bookmarked webpages from the context-menu (right-click menu), but also removes the annoyance of bookmarks toolbar. You can access your bookmarked sites by just right clicking from any page you are in and the new webpage is opened in a separate foreground tab.

Note that, bookmarks that do not have a title will not appear in the context menu. Also, due to limitations in the Context Menus API, favicon support is not possible at the moment.

How To Replace the Google Logo with Your Doodle


The Google home page is famous for lots of impressive “doodles” recently. Each doodle stands for events like holidays, anniversaries, or current events and clicking the doodle sends visitors to Google’s search results page where they will get detailed information about the event. - In case you have not known about Google’s “doodles” yet, they are “the fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous changes that are made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists, pioneers, and scientists”.

Gmail’s Auto Response System Now Supports Rich Text Formatting and Images


Gmail’s auto-response system is a useful feature for those who want to send an automated reply to incoming messages in their absence. Google now updated this “automatic vacation response” system with new features to make it livelier. You can now format text, align as well as insert links and photos into your vacation response.

- You can setup vacation responder in Gmail’s settings to reply anyone (as per your settings) who emails you automatically. Just go to Gmail’s Settings menu, scroll down and enable “Vacation Responder on” option.


- Enter the subject and body of your message in the Subject, check the box next to “Only send a response to people in my Contacts” if you like so and click “Save Changes” option.
- To stop the auto respond feature, just enable “Vacation Responder off” and save the changes. That’s it.

How To Enable Search Box in Chrome New Tab Page


Currently, this feature is available on Chrome Dev. channel on Windows and Chrome OS and available for a small set of users who have Google selected as their default search provider. Mac will be coming soon and no mention about Linux.


If you are using Chrome dev. version and couldn’t see Chrome’s New Tab page (NTP) with search box integrated, here is how you can enable it.
- Type “about:flags” (without quote) in the omnibox and hit enter.
- Locate “Enable Instant extended API” and click “Enable” button to enable the feature.
- Restart Chrome to save the changes. Now you’ll be able to see Chrome’s New Tab Page with integrated Google search box along with most visited sites and apps.

How to Insert Google Drive Stock Images in Docs, Sheets and Slides?


First, login to your Google Drive account and click “Create” button to create a new document or presentation, or spreadsheet. For example, if you’re creating a new document, select “Documents” from the drop down list.


Now, to insert an image in your document, click “Insert” tab and then click “Image”.
A new popup window will come up. To insert a suitable image from Google Drive’s stock images, select “Google Drive” and click “Search” option.


Click “Stock Images” option, enter a search term in the search box and click search button.
